Garde’s & Grenadier’s?

Hi can someone give me a little info on Garde’s and Grenadier’s plz.

Garde’s - were specialist units, required to be over 6 foot tall, wore the extended Prussian wappen, and served in all areas of the Germen army, infantry, cavalry, artillery, pioneer etc.

Grenadier’s - this is what I’m not too sure about where they cavalry (light or heavy) or infantry.

Lastly what’s the difference between leib-garde and leib-granadier to regular garde and grenadier.

I think the title "Grenadier" was just something bestowed on an ordinary infantry regiment that had distinguished itself in some way during an earlier campaign. Like a reward for outstanding service given to the whole regiment.

'Leib' is Life-Guard/Grenadier - so they are the personal bodyguard to the Kaiser or whoever the big cheese is - one of the Princes of the satellite states for example. 'Life-Guard' is better than 'Mud-Guard' also.

First Grenadiers are always infantry. The origins of this title I believe comes from the word grenade ie these larger men during the 1700's were equiped with primative grenades to throw at the enemy in battle. Thus, the trem grenadier. B

Well, they're always infantry except for Grenadier-zu-Pferd-Regiment Freiherr von Derfflinger (Neumärkisches) Nr.3, which were "Horse Grenadiers" and are listed with the dragoon regiments. Technically, dragoons originated as mounted infantry anyway, so it's still in the ball park.
