GdK Grandfather.

We have our bi-annual US/German exchange going on right now and one of our colleagues from Germany is enjoying her first time here. Her grandfather was a Kurassier in the GdK Regiment! She said that between post WWI, WWII and post WWII a lot of what they had was traded off for clothes or food by the family, but at least one photo survives of him with his full parade uniform on. Naturally, I asked for a copy and will share when it shows up. I also asked if she could photocopy / scan / photo any paperwork they may have. She's pretty sure there are no helmets or uniform items, but will check with the family (in which case SOMEBODY in the family will suddenly develop an interest in them :) )
We'll see!

That is a great story, but you might be surprised what is found. I great grandfather immigtrated over here in 1923 and he best suit, which he traveled in, at the time was his waffenrock converted into a suit. Upon their settlement in the US, his wife buried everythign in the back yard. Following the death of some of my great aunts and uncles, so things showed up, which was a Iron Cross, a bracelet, photos, and a MilitarpaB. I wish you the best of luck.
