The star looks like a new addition is this a correct observation?
 
I would want to look at the back of the wappen to see the connectioins.

Tony always says don't read what the seller says. It is comments like this seller makes that has spawned what we call book 2 or the Tome..... a lot of people don't get it.

the small Grand Duchy of Oldenburg (see Laine p. 60) - a small proud state in the Bismarkian, Second Reich located in lower Saxony.
 
Broadsword: I had a look at this helmet on ebay. I see what you mean about the star but I do not think that it is an add on. The colour difference between the sar and coat of arms may be due to frosting on the star. It may also be caused by the sellers lighting conditions when he took his pics. On one close up of the wappen there appears to be little difference in the patina on the star and shield.
However, all that being said, I would echo Joe in asking for pics of the rear of the wappen before bidding $2,400. Brian
 
Be very careful here. The photograph in the ebay listing is the same photo that was in the Hermann Historica Auction catalog.
