Very, very nice. Thanks for postin'. The chap on the right has a novel idea, using his cuff as a pocket .

Hey Brett,
I think this was a fairly common practive, I picked up an Austrian Mantel a few years ago, I always cheack the pockets (everyone does anymore) and they were empty, but one of the cuffs had several ration cupons in it (I also check the cuffs)

Could anyone tell me what is attached on the belt the guy with the trumpet on the first picture??

And also the chap with "pocket in the cuff" has on the arm strange emblem, for me it looks like a star??

do you mean behind the bugle? That is a gas mask cannister.

It is a flute case. Each of the buglers in the photo is wearing the Model 88 flute case. There is a very good photograph of the flute and case in The German Infantry from 1871 to 1914 Uniforms and Equipment by Ulrich Herr and Jens Nguyen, volume 1, page 243.

You lucky so-and-so Gus :D

I confess, I have seen very few examples of the "cuff pocket", but I'm sure it was as you say common practice.

I meant the item on the left which looks like a "flute" or something like that - long tube.
I missed the other bugle, and R1 answered the question, that is the first I have seen in a photo.
