Gew 91 Regimental Markings?

Hi All

Looked at a rifle today, Gew91.Quite tidy and looks to be complete with matching numbers.The first of these rifles I have seen. It is an interesting little rifle and has what looks like regimental markings which read


LD. A.F.
1.102.
The first "1" is double the size of the other numbers

I may have a chance of buying this so any information much appreciated

Do you have by any chance a pic of that marking
Cant find anything that would match with that marking

Being marked to an artillery unit appears to be correct. As I understand it, these were reworked Kar88s that were made up for the artillery and seem to be a pretty rare piece. Searching on line I found all but one marked to fuss artillery regiments, that one was marked to an Ulan regiment.
 
Hi All

Had another look at this rifle today

I have found a second regimental marking on the barrel band that has been struck out, quite interesting.

the struck out markings are as follows 7.A.F.E 4243.
Nose Cap marking as follows (have seen more of this in daylight) LD.AF.18. 1. 102.

All numbers match and theres a load of markings including what looks like crown over W and then crown over M on right side of butt then just rear of trigger guard a crown over B then some imperial proofs in the wood.

I read these rifles were converted to fire Spitzer ammunition by addition of cartridge clip guides, this rifle has S on the chamber and no addided guides or half moon cutout above chamber. There is a clop on dust cover on the base of the mag that has a coil spring to push up the empty stripper clip.
A very interesting little rifle indeed

Hey Andrew, I recently picked up a decent Kar 88 that has the same S for spitzer but still used the clip as well. I wondered if the mounted troops favored the en block clip.
 
Thats a nice looking carbine. Lots of other interesting things in the photo, M2 50 cal underneath. Must be quite a store you're shopping at.

I suspect that is just some of his odds and ends you see in the back ground, he has been holding out on us as far as posting photos of his goodies, it is probably my fault as I have threatened to head his way with the truck.

This is probably more up James LeB's alley as it is marked to a Bavarian Ulan Regiment:)

Gunner2 the Rifle is in my gun room, not a store although at the moment it looks like one. An association I am involved with is hosting an auction in April, the Gew 91 has been submitted as an auction lot hence I will have an opportunity to buy. I am storing and assisting with cataloguing for the auction so my gun room is rather full. The poor old .50 is usually sitting on a a M3 tripod but there is just no room for it at present and most of my other projects are on hold. Im looking forward to getting my room back but for now Im happy to be able to assist with the auction. Gus I will do some pics when I get things back in order....I promise ;-) Stunning Kar88 by the way!
 
OK, I will come clean on the Kar88, I did buy it, but I bought it for my father, as he is a bit crazy about carbines, so it did not cut into my SOS account at all, and, I plan on borrowing it for a display at the Ogden gun show in March.
