Good book on Ebay

This is one of my favorite books!

It is very large and heavy, with both English and German text.

I already have it, but thought I would mention it if anyone is looking for this book!

If I have the title right, "Deutschlands Heer u. Flotte." it was reprinted in 1989 and the reprints are going for $20 on up through a number of antiquarian booksellers on abebooks:

Of course, the originals are in the $375 to $400 range.

I tend to agree with James on this one. The link above has a review of the book, the second edition, the English-language reprint, and the CD-ROM. James said it right when he said it was big and heavy. If you drop this on your foot you're in trouble. Printed around the turn-of-the-century the originals actually were these blue copies. The pretty copies like this one came out shortly thereafter. The only difference is the cover. The prints in these books, now part of the public domain, were printed in a style called chromolithograph. They are quite sharp and very colorful and a lot nicer than modern four-color printing. The text talks a lot about being in the army. Requirements of service. I like what it says.

I have an extra blue original around here somewhere. I think the binding is shot. His $19 shipping fee is probably not too high, given the weight of this object.
