Great for the seller! Anyhoo, I was watching this and bid $137 thinking, "Hey! What a fun restoration project!" (since I STILL don't have a Hessian helmet and won't be able to buy again for a while, unless something is dirt cheap), and wouldn't have minded working on my skills a bit. A little cleaning, soldering, reforming, reconstruction on the chin scales, etc..
But wow! Who'd a' thunk it would see a price like this. I guess I'm now officially so behind I think I'm ahead.

If it's worth the price to you, then you might have a deal there. I was looking for a fun and inexpensive restoration project.

$1,428 with 53 minutes to go!???? !!!?? For that!?

Am I missing something here? Was that the Kaiser's aunt's brother's first wife's helmet or something???

wow.

Ron

not agreeing or disagreeing with the price, but the Trichter and plume for this type of helmet are very, very rare!

Well then, it's probably a good price! It just surprised me, is all. Of course, this hobby always surprises me one way or another!

I suppose I should stick to my own theory, that if it's worth it to the BUYER, then it's worth it! (that's how I cover my butt when I think I've paid a bit too much for something..)

Do not worry! There are still nice, cheap deals to be made on ebay:

For those who cannot read French: only the uberzug was for sale, not the helmet underneath...

That ad was not reall misleading, it never showed the helmet, I have seen ebat listings that were selling a photo of the item listed, in one case it was a photo of a very expensive git box, with an outragious buy it now (very low for a git box and very high for a photo) the buyer was not happy, I would assume.

I agree, Gus, the ad was not misleading, but $ 520,00 for a shabby Ueberzug that is not even marked...

I recently paid $500 for an Überzug in a little better condition, but I did get a nice M1915 Bavarian helmet named to an Offizierstelvertreter.

I haven't bought any for a long time, but the last one I bought (an artillery with a maneuver stripe) was $50. So, that gives you a hint as to how LONG ago that was!!
