Would that moustache not tickle the nostrils of this guy? And what happens, if he drinks a beer?
I have small moustache and even then the foam is always lingering on my upperlip. :-P

Welcome to the forum! What a classic----got to wonder how long he had to work on this or was he just from Afghanistan!

Cheers! I confess, long time lurker - first-time poster. Here's another hairy chap, but before I do, congratulations on the new book Joe. I've been digesting it since it arrived downunder a couple of days ago. FYI - I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Well done!

This guy is better than classic! Can you make out the shoulder strap? What the heck is he doing with a helmet cover that says 69?? I mean, doesn't this guy look seriously old? I would guess older than 40. Is there any identification to this? What a great picture!

I am glad you stopped lurking seems to be more fun if you just jump in -- in your case. What classic pictures! But it really doesn't matter. So any lurkers please come on in.

Brett, thanks for the kind words on the book, but did you order it from the publisher for $36 shipping or from us for 15? I am trying to see how the packaging held up to Australia.

Joe - FYI I purchased it directly from you via Ebay. When it arrived I admit I was concerned at what state the book was going to be in as the packaging looked like it had been used as a duckboard on the Somme (a slight exaggeration). Fortunately it was alright, with just one slight crease on the spine. As stated earlier, I'm very, very pleased with it.

Hi Brett:

Given the old gent's civilian trousers and the outrageous (over) length of those Bluse sleeves, I'd be willing to bet he was just somebody's Großpapa, hastily seconded into a novelty photo because of his inimitable looks.

It was an inspired notion resulting in a great photo.

Wow great fotos. I have never seen a moustache like that. The bearded guys look as they are from ZZ Top! Was R205 an alpine Regt? Due to his boots. Brian

G'day Chas / Brian,

Thanks for the feedback :D.

Chas, I'm confident you're on the money there. Way too old to even be in the Landsturm ... well, maybe.

Nice! I think this is the first time I have seen a Landsturm unit with the old section 11. Probably isn't but I don't remember any others.
