Great visit from forum member

Thanks for the tour through your collection and your hospitality James! I had a great time, my only regret was it was too brief! Maybe if I am there for an Oilers Wild game one day we can spend more time with your amazing collection. Some real rarities and what a great variety of helmets!

I had a great time, and made it safely to the next leg of my journey. Funny enough I even passed a car with Alberta plates halfway here! Also I have never seen so much corn in my life as what is grown here in Iowa!

Thanks again, was a fantastic time!

Yes, it's almost unbelievable until you see it in person, as to how much of my state of Iowa is planted in corn and soybean crops.

The corn is growing very fast now until it starts to tassel and set ears on the corn stalks.

An acre of corn in Iowa can emit about 4,000 to 5,000 gallons of water vapor into the atmosphere each day during peak growing season weareiowa.com+1. This process, called evapotranspiration or “corn sweat,” occurs when the plant pulls water from the soil through its roots, uses it for growth, and releases it as moisture through its leaves.

How much is that?

  • Daily output: 4,000–5,000 gallons per acre per day weareiowa.com+1.
  • Seasonal total: Over the growing season (typically June–August), this can add tens of millions of gallons per acre.
  • Statewide impact: Iowa’s cornfields, covering nearly 13 million acres in 2024, can collectively emit 49–56 billion gallons of water vapor per day Cherokee Chronicle Times+1.

The humidity this evening at 10:30 pm is 85%. It feels very muggy outside because of all the water the corn plants are emitting into the atmosphere. Some days the humidity and dewpoint are quite high, and it feels almost "tropical" here in Iowa.
