Grenadier Regiment 1

Hello to all collectors ;
I have had for some years a real interest in the
12 Prussian Grenadier Regiments.
I am going to post under groupings my collection
of Grenadier Regt 1
The regiment was raised in the year 1655
It was part of I A K and garrison was Konigsberg.
The collar and cuffs on the officers waffenrocks
of the Grenadier regiments were patterned
after the very early Grenadier uniforms .
For G R 1 officers they were awarded the special
collar & cuffs on 6. 5. 1900.
The "1655 " banner was awarded to the helmet plate in 1897.
The change to the newer wide winged Grenadier helmet plate was 6.5. 1900
The " F R III " cypher and crown for the epaulettes and shoulder straps 25.2. 1889
The regiment was " Crown Prince
On 24.3. 1918 The Chef was Crown Prince Wilhelm
I have found a photo of C P Wilhelm in the G R 1 uniform very hard to find.

I will start with my officers Friedensrock for G R 1 .
A couple of things different about this piece ;
It has the loops for epaulettes which I understand were not to worn
on this uniform . The shoulder straps are not sewn into the shoulders
but a slip on . They are not the normal width of the Friedensrock straps .
The cuffs are piped in white which is correct for G R 1.

Next a pair of officers epaulettes for G R 1 that would be worn on the pre-war blue waffenrock.

Single Lt. Col. shoulder strap for G R 1

A pair of officers feldgrau shoulder straps for G R 1

Officers helmet G R 1 from the former Jacques Pries Infantry officers collection

Enlisted man's helmet G R 1

Feldgrau e m helmet with a Prussian line eagle .Kammer inside marked G R 1 1916.
I have never seen nor have I ever talked to anyone who has seen a feldgrau G R 1
helmet plate with the "1655 " banner .

And last a loose officers "1655 " Banner and an enlisted old style FWR G R 1 plate
when the " 1655 " banner was worn above the eagle like G R 4 does .

Thank you .
I will try and do G R 2 next , but I do not have
as much in the collection , as G R 2 troops
wore just the line Grenadier plate on their helmets .
No way to know if you have an officers helmet .
Only if you get lucky and locate a Kammer issue enlisted helmet .

Excellent post Steve, thank you. Super rare items and we are very lucky to have an experienced collector such as yourself you join us on this forum. :thumb up:

Thank you Brian .

I realized that I forgot to add my enlisted straps
to the group .
Not much here just a single .
G R 1 has been hard for me to find .
All the Grenadier straps will be covered in detail
in Mike Kelso's book on I G straps due out soon .

Grenadier-Regiment Crown Prince (1.Ostpreußisches)
04.06.1860 - 15.06.1888: Crownprince and later Emperor Friedrich III.

when the Photobucket images came back they are almost so bad
that you can't see what the items are .I guess that is what you get for "free "

PB is pulling a new deal, they are blurring the images until you either reduce the number you have or sign up for a pay account.

I'm still using imgur.com and it is still working well. I haven't lost any images and they have given me no problems.
