Grenadier Regiment 4

KAGGR#1

Well-known member
Grenadier Regiment 4 was raised in 1626
A K I and Garrison was Rastenburg
The " 1626 " banner was given to helmet plate in 1888
the cypher was given the shoulder straps and epaulettes 27. 1. 1889
The officers blue Waffenrock was given the special collar and
cuffs 1. 5. 1911 , so this uniform would only have been
worn for a short time before the Feldgrau uniform
Laine shows the old " F W R " Grenadier eagle was worn
until 1913 , however Jan K. Kube's article on the
Grenadier Regiments states that the new wide winged
Grenadier eagle was given 1. 5. 1911
so I am not sure which is correct .

First we show a postcard of the Fahna of G R 4 / I I Batl
The pole top is a Grand Cross of the 1813 Iron Cross .
The black Sakular Parade Banner 1626 / 1726 / 1826
was awarded when the regiment was standing for 200 years

I had loaded about 5 photos and my computer froze
and I lost everything I was doing , so I will do
a few photos at a time .

Here we have the G R 4 Waffenrock of Prince Adalbert
one of the Kaiser's sons. Note the many medal loops
which are uncommon for his rank of Hauptmann.

collar and cuff detail ; the cuffs are piped in white which is correct for G R 4 / A K I

above the wide winged Grenadier eagle .
The helmet is from the former Jacques Pries
Infantry helmet collection .

Period photo postcard of Prince Adalbert in the uniform
of Grenadier Regiment 4 as seen above .
He wears all of his medals and orders .
He is more often seen in photos wearing his Naval uniform.

Here are the other 3 helmets in the G R 4 collection .
Enlisted man the 1888 pattern the "1626 " banner
over the F W R eagle .

Enlisted man in the 1911 pattern. This was a very difficult helmet
for me to find .

Officers helmet in the 1888 model
Another G R officers helmet from the former Jacques Pries Infantry helmet collection.

I truly like seeing these groupings - they are very informative. Great collects. Thanks posting.

I want to finish up the G R 4 group with the shoulder
straps and epaulettes in the collection .

Officer Stellvertreter pair G R 4

Pair of Officers epaulettes G R 4

Here are 2 different pairs of Lt. Col . shoulder straps from G R 4 .
The first pair shown are IMO very close to the issue date of 1888.
The schnurr material is much heavier and thicker .
They are also of a larger size .
The second set I believe to be closer to 1912 -14
The schnurr is smaller and the overall size of the
straps are smaller .

Beautiful! Absolutely amazing set, a rare piece of Hohenzollern history, thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys .
A couple of good comments
makes it worth doing .
It is good to document the collection
as it will not always be together .
46 years of work .
