Grenadier Regt 7

I purchased this color plate at the Rastatt Museum some years ago .
It appears to me that it was intended to be published in a book .
I do not know who F. Kersten was? Too bad the book as not done
from what I see here it would have been a good one.
My focus now is on the G R 7 officers helmet. If I understand the information
correctly, the helmet with the "new " wide winged eagle & 22 Marz 1797 banner
was worn from1897 to 1914. The schuppenketten rosette for the officers only
was worn on the helmet since 1875.
So there should not be a G R 7 officers helmet wide winged eagle plate without
the cyphered side rosette.

Sort of like the idea of the Lanie book
but IMO would have been better as it would have been in color
and with more information .
I also purchased other plates then from other regiments.
I bought one each of the ones that they had .

Steve,

if memory serves me right, this and other similar plates were published in the Zeitschrift für Heereskunde, I think in the eighties and nineties. As I recall, Fritz Kersten was a prolific contributor to that publication.

Many thanks
I am pretty sure that I do not have any copies of Zeitschrift für Heereskunde from the eighties and nineties.
My copies are from earlier years .Are they online anywhere ? I would like to see what he did .
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

I am not aware of online copies of the Zeitschrift für Heereskunde. I do have a pdf version of the contents from 1929-2016 which I can of course send to you. Herr Kersten contributed over a 100 articles including some excellent stuff on the Braunschweig and Hanoverian armies, not to mention dozens of excellently illustrated articles on Imperial German uniform subjects.

I just became a member. The 1929-2023 article list is available online. -Members receive free articles on request. Non-members have to pay. Half an Euro.

Another Question
With the information on this plate
This brings up a fact that I didn't know about
The side rosette with the cypher as used in 1875
the "new " wide winged eagle front plate was started in use in 1897
so there would be a G R 7 officers helmet with the old style "FWR "
eagle front plate with the rosette with the cypher
I have never seen a helmet like this
Do any members have one in their collections ?
Steve

Beautiful artwork and information.

It's a great society and there is also have a forum, it's a great resource for authentication (y)(y)

There was also a hard bound reprint of the old magazines with tons or articles. It was huge maybe ten volumes or so.
