Hey, at the current price of $9.99, it is not bad for a reproduction chin strap and repro Kockarden

So is it all fake?

Yes. It's probably one of the helmets made in the U.K. sometime in the 1970s.

Here's an earlier discussion:

And here is a Tschako that may be from the same maker:

OMG that is HILARIOUS!! The Ersatz Filz helmets came out in 1914, and this is dated 1912?? That is just sad. :clown:

I do not see the problem, H.G. Wells had already invented the time machine by this time, it is true that they were made int he 70s, but they were transported back in time, that is obvious by the dates on them:)

Yes, every year or so one of these bogus, circa 1970's "made in England" tschapkas shows up on eBay.

The two clear clues to this being bogus are the ink stamp markings inside the tschapka, and the brown ?leather trimmed visor.

There is also a bogus Saxon shako on eBay as well, with the same fake brown ?leather trim on the edging of the shako.

All the Best,

Alan

This tschapka is to me an other illustrative example of all the fake stuff that can be found on ebay these days, and therefore nicely emphasizes the risk of being fooled by shopping on ebay.

Best regards,

Edwin

This question appeared on the Tschapka auction:

"Q: Hello Charlie, I'm a WWI German Headgear collector living in Canada but currently on temporary assignment in Lebanon. I'm also a member of the Pickelhaubes.com Forum. Unfortunately, as PayPal doesn't work from Lebanon, I could only pay you by Bank Draft drawn on & guaranteed by the Bank of NY. So far, this has worked with other eBay sellers as per my feedback. Would you be OK with this payment method mailed to you in a Registered Envelope (up to 10 business days to reach the US)? If so, how much would you charge me for USPS Registered Shipping to Montreal, Canada? Thanks. Ron"

Ron in Lebanon must not be reading the forum lately. It may cost him at least $766.56.

:(

Thank you all for steering me away from being fooled again...
I had sent my question to the seller before actually checking the forum and when I did, I was glad not to have done any bidding!!

Not as much as the person who bought the other 'original' helmet there for $2,400!!
See thread on Stalhelm Tank or Flamethrower

Yup, that's the main problem with ebay. A lot of these things can be picked out as fakes / replicas if you're holding them because of smell, feel, etc. It's very difficult to do that on ebay with some of these.
Of course, some of the buyers haven't seen enough authentic pieces to tell the difference. I think almost all of us have been fooled or at least disappointed with a purchase at one time or other.

The great think about this forum is that some very knowledgeable people are willing to help and give honest feedback.

:D Ron

Hard to believe, that if you are willing to blow $1,000+ on a helmet that you would not be a member of this forum.
