Congratulations. Nice Pelzmütze !
Just a little clarification: for officers the Pelz is in Oppossum
Clovis
Sorry, not correct
I owned this example
It is / was otter fur for officers at that time
Otter fur was used until they could get no more skins
at that time the changed over to Opossum fur

Hi there.

What I would be interested in is: is it known how or where the manufacturers obtained these precious furs from?
Were there some kind of breeding farms that bred these animals specifically for the army?

Greetings
Stefan

In this fine book: pages 7 to 9
-The otter fur was imported from Canada (British Columbia)-the brown otter- and other otter fur; e.g. from Virginia / Canada e.g. J-L.Larcade volume II page 64 and 72. A much lighter colour and longer hair. -Both Pelzmützen are in the Fort de la Pompelle.

Thank you for the addition information
I had always heard that after the war started, there were blockades against Germany
the otter skins could no longer reach Germany. That as the reason for the change to
opossum fur.
