Here's something you don't see often on fleabay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-Rare-German-Hanover-Jaeger-Battalion-Nr-10-M-1915-Shako-Helmet-B-A-X-1916-/290731499257?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43b0f29ef9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

All legit you think?

I dunno, looks okay to me. Does the depot mark match the regiment? I don't know about the field badge, or if the plate is original to the helmet, but it seems to match up. I assume by the 'WR', in the liner, that this once belonged to "Wilhelm Rex"... so probably from a time when he was an enlisted Kaiser. ;)
Lots of bids so far, so evidently some other folks like it. If everybody agrees, then this would look GOOD in your collection!

Hey Ron,
Provided this one is 100% OK--I have no idea if the markings match the wappen--, it will be out of my league anyway, not to mention it has a Reserve Price which is most certainly over $1k...
It does look quite nice though =P~

You have to know. This is not rocket science. What you need to do is determine what the unit is which is easy with this one and then find out what corps that unit was in. So if you have a helmet plate from JB10 you need to look up which Army Corps was that supplied with. The marking is BAX. So that is the Bekleidungsamt for X Army Corps. So look it up. Does the unit match Army Corps? In this case yes. Once you become a little bit familiar with the structure of the Army Corps you will be able to determine that BAII is Prussian and does not match a Saxon helmet plate for instance. :D

My first impression is that it looks ok, although the field badge looks quite new to me but I am no expert on shako's.

I`m really not convinced that this wappen is original. It looks like it has a brown wash over it to age it. it looks like its been painted and rubbed to remove high areas of paint and the writing looks like its been re done, badly with a black wash.
That`s not to say it isnt an original plate, but I put money on the fact its not original finish.

This will go for crazy money, for the sort of money it will go for, I would want to hold it and feel it and sniff it.

The shako looks good, but how hard is it to badge a shako these days with a wappen that looks really convincing? It has been re-shaped though in my opinion, using alcohol (surgical sprits or meths?) The inside colour is a dead give away. That dark chocolate brown colour is a classic colour change for helmets that have been wetted with alcohol to soften them up. All the more reason to worry about the wappen
Just my thoughts.

I have no problem with adding a restored helmet to my collection, unlike a lot of other collectors, but the price should reflect the fact that it is restored. I fear the price on this one will be ridiculous.
