Hauben Prices

Hello Fellow collectors!

As yet, I have not purchased any pickelhauben. But I'm almost at the point where I feel like I am ready. That being said, what would you recommend my first helmet should be? What should I pay? Where should I look? As a college student with a part time job, money is most certainly an object. As a bayonet collector, I focus on rare unit markings and bayos, like the colonial schutztruppen units of Africa, but I don't think I'm going to be able to afford any head gear from these units any time soon!

Any advice for this beginner would be greatly appreciated.

Nate,

Buy what u like! My vote would be for something common and cheap. A well marked Prussian M15. Concentrate on condition. I think maybe $350. Once you have your own in your hands you will know what to ask.. Have fun with it

Hey Nate,
I agree with Joe, the M15s are the ones that I find the most interesting, and they are still relatively reasonable. I would recomend trying to find one that has an original chin strap and Kockarden, and these parts can cost as much as a helmet did a few years ago.

I agree , collect what you like.As for cost penny cheap now pound expensive later. The M15's are a good brt try for as best shape you can get , do not look at restoration project's .
Watch local militaria show's or Auction's .
