This Bavarian Tschapka was sold by "prussian-grenadier" on eBay several months ago. The winning bidder, "goodhelms," resides in the UK. Mine was the second highest bid, which is why I recall it well.

"k_8744" registered with eBay on 24 October 2006 as a private seller, has nothing else for sale, and requires payment in the form of a cashier's check or money order. The pictures appear to be those taken by "prussian-grenadier" (only a generation poorer in detail).

I sincerely doubt "goodhelms" and "k_8744" are one and the same, but it's not impossible.

For anyone thinking of bidding, I would encourage them to press the seller with as many questions as possible. It looks like a swindle to me.

What did you bid on it if you don't mind me asking? I would like to get a nice example of one of these. I just need one. I have some time left though to look.

Some poor soul is about to lose £600.00, $1,144.02, or €890.873, and, because glorious eBay keeps his identity private, no one can warn him.

So its "guarenteed 100% original", but yet it's NOT original? :x
Or the seller is just not going to ship the item?

Andrew, The seller does not have the item, he has lifted the photos from an earlier listing, and posted it for sale. Sellers who have no feedback normally do not sell high end items, also, if a seller hides the bidder's ID, it is a very strong clue that the seller is not honest. The way this scam works, the seller registers with a new name (this is not the original seller) and then watches for a very expensive item to sell, they then copy the photos (and sometimes the discription) direct from ebay, and after a few weeks, they list the item as their own. The buyer must send payment, and the seller has a big bundle of money in their hands and they never send the item as they never had it. The buyer complains to ebay, but because the seller demanded a casier's check or money order, ebay will not/can not help, they just revoke the seller's registration, and the next day, the seller re-registers to doo it again. This scam is also done with photos and discriptions lifted from other web sites (such as Kaiser's Bunker) and often the discription is also lifted. Often you can copy and paste the discription on google and you will get a hit on the origin of the listing.
Several red flags for an ebay seller,

no feedback

hidden bidder's IDs

they demand payment with casier's check or money order.

hidden feedback is not a good thing either, because it shows you that the seller has bad feedback, but this is not a big a flag as no feed back with a high end item, although it is possible to get a real bargin from a new inexperianced seller with no feedback, but you should always bid on such an item with the idea that you may be getting taken, and only send as much money as you feel that you can afford to loose. I did this with a pair of Russian arty shoulderboards from WWI and ended up getting a mint pair for about a third the value

Just to let you guy's who have not seen the new Bidder# system yet .Ebay has placed a Bidder # over the bIdders ID ,so now you only see how many bidders and what thier bids are .
It is on some auctions and not other's . I did not get to place this on my last sales lot .

I don't believe that these are one and the same person. Some time ago now I purchased a standard Prussian Artillery Kugelhelm from Goodhelms. Nothing fancy, but then nothing suspicious nor untoward either.

I believe he did. I also recall him selling full size resin copies of Pickelhauben.

To clarify, goodhelms won the Tschapka in the original, legitimate auction. As Gus explained to Andrew, k_8744 is the creep who used stolen pictures to perpetrate the fradulent auction.
