Hello to all, I am from Edinburgh in Scotland and my main interest is in the history of the various Scottish military units and police forces.
I have a particular interest in the Scottish Volunteer movement (especially those units connected with the Royal Scots) from the period 1859 to 1914 along with the effect this movement had on the social history of each units recruiting area.
I collect headdress but also try to research the history of each unit which I feel is essential to fully appreciate it. This includes the initial formation and location of the unit and how it develped over time including uniform changes and the construction of purpose built drill halls, many of which were imposing structures which still exist today.
I hope to upload images and some brief informaton about each item on the forum which hopefully members will find to be of interest.
However, before anyone asks, yes, I do have a couple of Pickelhaubes (and I know one has a repro chinstrap)!
