Helmet cover Regiment "8" from WW1 US Officer

We have a new section on the forum dedicated to the uberzug. I would encourage one of you to please either take a new set or Al perhaps you could repost these. Thanks, B

Great photos - I noticed that the uniform cuffs are different in all the photos. In the photo with the bikes they have the Brandenburg cuff, in the next one he has the 1915 fold up cuff, and the last photo it appears to be a plain cuff (this soldier also appears to modified the straps to his pack).

Thanks, so the first picture is not form bay IR 8 but from LGR 8. Intresting !
I don't know about that. Did LGR 8 have bicycles? Look at the cockades on their caps, they're light colored. Could this first photo be something like the 8th bicycle Abt.?
In the second photo the soldier is wearing the Vereinfachte Feldrock and has the older pattern cartridge boxes, but the 98 rifle.
The third photo's soldier has modified cuffs, but not of a regular pattern and is equipped with the 98 pouches (although it appears he has modified the straps on the pack).

I tried to look close at the helmets in the last two photos, to see if I could make out the shape of the Wappen under the cover. Guessing I would say that the second photo is 8th Bayern and the third may well be LGR8. In the second photo if you look close it appears to be three bumps under the cover about where the crowns would be on a Bayern Wappen. In the third his cover appears to conform closer to that with a Grenadier plate under it.

These are just my opinions and I could be completely out in left field (for non-Americans; being in left field equates to being wrong). I would like hear more about this from of our more knowledgable members, particularly about the uniform in the third photo.
