Not German, but the price perspective is interesting.

Well, the liner is crap and the headband in the liner is certainly not original. This liner, with the darker green webbing would be late WWII and I don't think the Marines used much really late WWII equipment in their island fighting. To me, it's a 'parts helmet' of a nice shell, mismatched cover and liner and... not in very good condition and certainly not worth the price the bidders are going for. Without firm reasons for the liner being painted silver, I'd say the grandkids played this thing into the ground. :-P

The high price/condition somehow seems to justify the expense of collecting well-preserved, attractive helmets of imperial Germany. :)
