I've never handled one either, and anything that rare is scary these days. A lot of other folks must feel the same way, notice there are no bids. The brow plates have been reproduced, why not these? It looks old, but so do those felt helmets with the leather trim.

Yes there is company that makes a copy . That is bad copies.
Follow the link. www.shipperfabrik.com then go to German products, then go to German helmets.

Hello. The plate looks good but the leather is not original. There are (minimum) 3 models from "gaede helmets". You can see two of them in the book "The german army" from Jürgen Kraus (page96 - 98) and the third in "Militaria magazine" n° 31 p. 41. You can see this helmet with original liner on the site: www.militaria-1914.net/casque_von_gaede.htm.

Your link is not working.

Why would you say the plate is real but not the liner?

There is another picture added to the listing.

The link is good but is not working...? You can go on www.militaria-1914.net and then, in "Divers et varies", choose Von Gaede.

I'm looking at the pictures for more than an hour and, viewing the new picture, you're probably right, the leather linner seems to be good. My first opinion was not the good one... nobody is perfect! [/img]
