Helmet Preservation Suggestions

Hello,
I am new to the forum, but certainly not new to collecting. Thanks for having me here. Unfortunately I will probably be learning more than contributing when it comes to Pickelhaubes. I hope you don't mind me being a human knowledge sponge.

Quick question. Has anyone ever used Pecards or Dr. Jackson's for their helmet's leather preservation? I know lexol is a major no-no since it will breakdown old cotton fibers. Ergo, kiss your visor stitching go bye. I know Tony suggests (from his web site) using a LITTLE Murphy's Oil Soap. It also happens to be what Hartmann Luggage recommends for cleaning their high end and high dollar luggage and briefcases. Seems like the Oil Soap is great for mild cleaning, but does it actually help preserve the leather and replace the natural oils lost over time? Any recommendations and suggestions would be greatly apprecated before I even touch my M1915 Prussian Uhlan Tschapka. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum!

I have used Pecards in the past with good results. Only on liners!

Need to use it sparsley and no overdue it! Tends to leave a greasy residue.

Welcome indeed! Just about everyone but me can give you better preservation recommendations -- but welcome!
