Help Needed with Anhalt Frontplate Device. Is it real or repro?

As it is perfectly possible and original that such eagles with 4 holes have been used to fit some reserve or Landwehr units of the small duchies

No doubt. I have an original Sachsen-Weimar reserve helmet on which the Sachsen-Weimar arms and reserve cross are mounted on such a Prussian reserve plate with 4 holes.

We had discussed this Sachsen-Weimar reserve helmet on the forum in... 2006.
Tony's comment then:
"That appears to be an M1871 Reserve eagle, but it has had the posts removed, M1895 loops added, and the star Wappen placed over the EK indent on the chest."

Thank you for the photos.

The front view of the Anhalt wappen looks good but the back, I have doubts. The wappen should be "very clean" if it has been covered by the starburst but there again, it may have left to be exposed to the dirt and dust over the years, the blackened stuff around the end of the threads on the plate is something I have no clue.

Bruno, you have very good memory and can remembered the posting for 2006. Amazing

So do I  We discussed that point in a topic here, end of last month :D

Thanks Philippe, Bruno, and Amy, I appreciate your comments! :thumb up: Great photos Philippe! :bravo:

Before I made a full decision on the helmet, I consulted my friend Chip M. for information on R.J.R.27, 1.B. Here's what he found on the regiment:

Chip M.: "The RIR.27 was formed from the area of 14.Infanterie Brigade (Landwehr) by the following Bezirkkommandos, Staff, I.Batl. and M.G.K. in Halberstadt, II.Batl. in Aschersleben, III.Batl. in Sangershausen. Heavy losses in September 1914 cause the I.Batl. to be disbanded. A week later it was reinstated. There were also heavy losses in 1918 resulting in three companies being disbanded. They were reinstated and the battalions reconstructed in October of 1918.

Aschersleben, Sangershausen and Halberstadt were all in Anhalt in the IV.A.K. So, the regiment was drawn from the Landwehr troops of Anhalt.

This information comes from Jürgen Kraus’s “Handbuch der Verbände und Truppen des deutschen Heeres 1918. Infanterie, Band 2, Reserve- und Landwehr-Infanterie”.

Alan,

Here is a map of this very small Anhalt duchy between 1863 and 1918.

Only the green areas were the territory of this small state. It must not be confounded with the Sachsen-Anhalt of today which is much bigger
You will easily see on this map, that the city of Halberstadt and Aschersleben were not part of this duchy. The same is true for the city of Sangershausen which is located much more in the south (50 kms from Halberstadt).

The active unit JR27 was located in Halberstadt and had the classic prussian eagle on helmets and it makes no doubt that the RJR27 was formed there.

As the Hartwig Busche says, the I and III/RJR36 and some small parts of the LJR66 were formed at the mobilisation in Dessau and Bernburg. As you can see on the map above, both cities are located in the Anhalt duchy. All authentic reserve helmets of the Anhalt duchy that I know are showing a RJR36 stamp

Hi Philippe,

Many thanks for the old Imperial era map and clarification and correction on what I had incorrectly thought of Halberstadt being part of the old Anhalt, which I can now clearly see that it was not. I appreciate your expert information as always! Once again, thank you very much! =D> :bravo:

Best Regards,

Alan
