I am attempting to restore a Jager zu Pferde helmet. Under the wappen the helmet is marked with a “27”. Can anyone help me to ID this number?

HI, there's no official explanation to that type of number, I suppose they were printed at the same time the spike and plate were adapted on the helmet, and all 3 parts were marked with the same number
this could help avoiding mixing the parts during maintenance, cleaning maybe gilding operations,
I have a couple of helmets with corresponding numbers shell/plate or shell/spike,
hope this helps

Definately not a size or Regt number. These are usually found stamped into the underside of the lobstertail rim. Some helmets also have their Regt numbers stamped into the side of the helmet under the cockade. I would say this has something to do with the manufacture of the helme, some sort of factory mark.
