Help with fireman's helmet ID

So a friend of mine with a fairly large collection of "picks" came up with this headgear which he's had for many years but never really tried to ID it. So have a look at the pix and tell me what you think.... I told him that the shield was that of the city of Amsterdam but that's just a guess: the lions are facing outward instead on toward the crest/shield but XXX is Amsterdam! ( to me anyway...)

it is indeed the crest of the city amsterdam
it might in the range of a fire fighter helmet
the age and other info i do not have
hopefuly you can figger out what it realy is
