Hi there. Would love some opinions on this pickle.. I have an opportunity to purchase and am wondering if its original or not. Some of the brasswork seems altogether to new or of lesser quality than i have seen before. Also amy info as to what it is. Regards scott Vancouver Canada

Hi Scott,
I do not know of any Wurtemberg spike helmet with rounded visor and cruciform spike base. Not even for police, customs...
This one has mostly features of an enlisted helmet, with a couple of more officer-like traits: rear spine, spike base. Spike base attachments look funny.
I would think of a post-war production as they used in marching bands, for instance, or for commemorative events.
Something you may like the appearance of; a "decorative" item as they write euphemistically in auction catalogues, but remote from WW1 history, in my opinion. Definitively not a WW1 headgear collector's item.
Other members of this forum will have perhaps more positive opinions...

I would agree. The Helmet itself could be from an enlisted men Helmet but the Frontplate is a bad copy of an em-plate, the deer has no details.
The Attachments of the Spikebase are not original, seems the Designer didn‘t have some Starbolts.
I would also don‘t invest in this Helmet, sorry.

Thank you for your information. Do you think it would worth restoring back to an enlisted mans helmet. I can probably buy it for under $100. The leather itself seems to be good construction

Restoring back? No way. Back to where? The whole thing was probably made in the 1930's. Lehmann and Wundenberg was a company making fireman helmets and various third Reich artefacts. I can't see the "restoration" you could make. It should be plain wrong, whereas for under $ 100 you can get a more or less authentic pre-WW2 Pickelhaube...
Good luck!

The membership has spoken and obviously saved you some cash. This is one of the primary directives on this forum, we are lucky to have decades of world wide expertise on collecting these helmets.
