Good Afternoon,

I would be grateful if anyone would comment on the attached Pickelhaube, I realise that the photo's are poor.

Thanks and regards,

Derek.

The cockade is not correct...white with blue ring for Bavaria, not the reverse. If real, the kokarde shown would be worn by someone from IR 96, IIIB Rudolstadt. Helmet seems to have been refinished, very shiny. The markings: Infantry Regt 23, formed 1897, based in Landau. 5C = 5th Company, IIB =2nd Battalion. The dates represent the year the helmet was accepted into Regimental stores. The liner also looks as if it is stitched somehow, I see a row of stitching in your rear visor/markings pic. That is not correct. More and better pics would help. Absolutely everything from the UK or in the UK is suspect I am sorry to say. From what I can see, I would not buy this helmet.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Are there any dealers that are relatively "SAFE" that you can recommend

Thanks and regards
Derek

CANADA: Collector's Guild (although we Canucks love to tax everything)
US: Age of Kings, Stewarts Military Antiques
France: Bertrand Malvaux (although sometimes parts seem fishy and descriptions erroneous)
Deutschland: Weitze (although pretty expensive)

Derek

remember the 20% import duty if buying outside Europe, its always best to see and feel the helmet if at all possible, the war and peace show in July has plenty of stalls there and last year Regimentals had a good selection (but pricey) don't be in too much of a hurry to buy I made that mistake and was conned.

I would save up and use this forum to read up especially when members point out the fakes on the ebay items section.
it won't take long to get your eye in
