Hesse - pickelhaube

The Hesse I bought recently had a similar spike to yours but I managed to find a Hesse spike to replace it with . Rob
 
Id love to find a Hessen spike but the spike currently on it is stuck. I haven't tried really hard as I'm a bit afraid...
 
Best to leave it alone if it won't come undone .I got lucky a forum member had a spare one but it wasn't cheap as one would expect. Rob
 
Charles on a removable spike top you can usually see the nut inside the spike neck that the top screws on to.

A removable Hessen spike top usually looks like this.

Yes, if you look down into the spike from inside, you can always see the soldered nut into which the spike top screws. On very rare occasions , that nut will become unsoldered creating a bit of a problem. However, if one is friends with an "expert soldering" person and he/she agrees to help, the issue can be rectified! (y) I have also had some luck with seized spike tops by heating them with hot water, after removal from the helmet of course.
