Yes, if you look down into the spike from inside, you can always see the soldered nut into which the spike top screws. On very rare occasions , that nut will become unsoldered creating a bit of a problem. However, if one is friends with an "expert soldering" person and he/she agrees to help, the issue can be rectified! I have also had some luck with seized spike tops by heating them with hot water, after removal from the helmet of course.
