Hessian helmet Stars ot Studs

The one on the left is DR23 isn't it? I wonder if they also had such a change when they were awarded their order and swords.

Spectacular helmets Steve!

Yes , it is a Hessian D R 23 officers helmet with the star
Only the second one that I have ever owned
Circa pre 1992 I had and made a huge mistake and sold all of my non-Prussian helmets
It took me many years and a big trade deal to replace the D R 23
Here is my old pre 1992 photo
Also years ago I had the regiment history book of the D R 23
It told in the book the date that the star with the crossed swords to the regiment
but I no longer have that book
My former Hessian FAR with the star and parade bush I bought for $250. U S Dollars
It had studs
The Hessian L G I R 115 officer cost me $450. U S Dollars
I don't remember the cost of the D R 23 officer
The D R 23 and the I R 115 both had stars , not studs

Thanks Steve - that's what I thought. An absolutely beautiful helmet and crazy rare, I'd imagine! I think the Ludwig Order + swords was only awarded @1915 wasn't it? The few pictures I've seen of them all seem to show starts rather than studs too, which is interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Brian, as far as I know, all Hessian artillery officer helmets bore stud retainers, and not stars. Even at AR25 in the 1915 configuration with the Henri the Lion enameled star and swords.
My bad! Henri the Lion was of course for Braunschweig... got confused with the Hessen Lion. Sorry.

Kube auction May 17 has a Hessian FAR officers helmet with studs for sale
Lot 1363 starting bid 1200 Euro
