Hessian Shako

Yes, the shako is back. This picture is from the Trawnik collection.

For once we have a card that was written on in September of 1914.

A the data in the last photo these guys probably come from Ldst._1_ Btl. Friedberg who will eventually become XVIII 10.

Why has this got to do with a great idea that R1 had? Litzen? Leftovers?
I have not looked up where the mailing city or the valley were at.

Landsturm? Why Litzen? Is the wappen size same as helmet?

Because he is wearing the Waffenrock of Leibgarde-Infanterie-Regt. (1. Großherzoglich Hessisches) Nr.115.

Thought you had another photo of some fellows wearing the IR115 Waffenrock but with Tschakos?

You are right. Not sure we can merge threads but there does seem to be a lot of parallels here.

That's a very nice pic, makes me think that I owe a wurtemberg tshako, same and parallel story, worn by train troops until the beginning of XX th century but probably used during ww1 for reserve and landwehr units
would someone have a ww1 period photo showing this wurtemberg tshako ?

Hi Tony, I'm at work and havn't got my reference books with me but I would say that's a more recent pattern since it has the 91 posts, I placed it with the jager tshakos, despite the fact it's a logistics unit headgear,

Württemberg Train received the Pickelhabe in 1903, so that would date your nice little Tschako from 1892 (when Tschakos received the M91 post) to 1903.

I agree with you, a Tschako is a Tschako, they look great together. My favourite type of helmet.
