the chin strap should not be flat . I am sure of that, and the eagle is to big for the helmet. if I am right the tail never go's past the line above the visor. if it did the head woul be up far to high

You do see sometimes the tail reaching below the line above the visor, like on the one in Fort de La Pompelle, for instance. This being said, this eagle does look like a very old model (1862).
The shell is very badly rusted... this will never be a nice looking helmet... Is any liner present?

All in all... not worth spending very much, in my opinion. But at a bargain price, why not? Just for the plate...

The scales look flat to me....
