I would guess police or even customs. Just a guess though. I'm sure somebody would know the crest.

Thanks Robert! I have one from the Rheinland (fire it would seem) and the eagle has no orb or septer (sp?). The crest is the same as the one in the middle top photo. I'll try to photo it sometime and post it. Front and rear trim on the visor and neck guard.

So this one would be from Westfalia, or Westfalen. I see it's also a 'koffer helm' with the spike removable at the cross base, as mine is.

Not a very good description of the helmet by the 'life long' owner, who evidently doesn't know how to research. I can't believe how much these go for now.
