How do people fix "squashed" pickelhaubes?

I don't have one, but a number of times I see them on the internet, and they seem complete, but have been squashed by being in a trunk or something. I started wondering if they can be reshaped, gradually, back to original form, or if and how people fix them? Just curious. thanks

Oliver,
there is an old thread on the forum that might be of help for you:
http://pickelhaubes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=513&highlight=gortex

I have used the "Goretex method" myself twice. I did not place the helmet in a bag as described because it seemed that this would expose the entire piece to high humidity. It was sufficient to place the damp rag & goretex inside for some time. For shaping I used a mushroom-shaped arrangement made of styrofoam-like material This material is used for handicraft work with flowers and can be carved with a kitchen knife. Rubber bands between the chin strap posts provide the required force.
