Hussar Regiment #20 de troupe

Of course, Brian. The reason I am asking is that it seems that your example belongs to a particular generation of busbies which are encountered occasionally. These are notably characterized by the inside of the top which is made of "raw" leather, light brown in color, whereas this part is usually dyed black in EM busbies. Also, the same faint, faded markings. Here is another example of this type. This one also bears a maker mark.

Yes Bruno raw leather. The other example only encountered by me when visiting the Kaiser’s Bunker! Bruno I promise I will post inside pictures asap. As you know, I have lots on my plate right now so keep that in mind. 🙂

No rush, of course, Brian! Just thank you for thinking of it in these busy times. Bruno

As promised some interior photos...it was sunny here today so not the best.

The M91 posts are of the type normally seen on ersatz tin pickelhauben .

The construction of these busby's is obviously very complex! Just making the interior support frame would have required great expertise.

Thank you, Brian. This confirms what I guessed. In your busby, like in one of the HR17 hats I have shown (see below), and perhaps in Tony's example, the light fabric lining the upper half of the drum is flat.

Conversely, this fabric is generally undulated in EM busbies, in which the wicker frame is also secured with more thread attachments (see two examples below).

In aggregate, I thought the busbies discussed in this thread might represent late wartime productions of slightly simplified manufacture.

Thank you! I am glad to see the same markings as on the one I showed. Also, apparently the same logo left to BAX. An eagle ? What are the other marks ? Can you also see a maker stamp ?
Yes Bruno, its an eagle...I've also seen this mark in tunics ( see photo )..Other marks are a rectangle right from the BAX square , probably for the year but unfortunately no longer readable.. and below the HR17 is says ,? ESK. ( eskadron)..
