Hello,

Can you give me an idea of how much would be the value of this Hussar set?

Description: Germany - Deutsches Reich - Torso display of a musician in the rank of a Senior Sergeant (Vize-Wachtmeister) or Sergeant from the "Kgl. Sächs. 3. Husaren-Regt. Nr.20" (Bautzen) XII Armee Korps. - August 1914.

Thanks,

Richard

That's a beautiful set especially the condition of the Attila (Tunic) from what I can see there doesn't seem to be much if any moth damage.

It really looks to be 100% original and usually the boards are gone or replaced.

If it were mine, I would try to get between 5 and 6 thousand US dollars. I would ask for 6 and if need be, you can always come down in asking price, but you can't go up. ;)

Very nice
I am not up on Feldgrau attilas
what model would this be called ?
there 3 different models of shoulder straps for musicians
M1898 I think that would be ruled out as H R 20 was formed late, and that model did not have the lyre
M 1908 is maybe the correct model ; however the M1908 has a sliver tressa border , which I don't see
M 1912 were all red , no matter the unit
so the cavalry followed the same patterns as the Infantry
Did Saxony follow the same patterns ?
The I R 19 plate shows all 3 models of the music straps
the other plates show the 1908 & 1912 models
also a Saxon H R 19 plate is shown
an obscure subject
should the swallow nest have fringe for the cavalry ???

Thanks for your opinion. It's very appreciated. (y)

Hi Steve.
I'm a Feldgrau lover so I will try to answer your questions. I was hoping someone else would take it on but after waiting a bit I feel your questions really need to be answered.

I don't pretend to be an expert on anything but after 50 years of collecting and researching I've picked up a little bit especially with things I collect such as feldgrau uniforms and feel comfortable commenting. I would also be interested in what some others think.

There certainly much more written on prewar items and things certainly changed throughout the war so it's always possible to see combinations of things as new items were made and issued during the war years.

The Attila looks to be an enlisted mens model 1909/10 because it doesn't have any of the changes that were made on the Model 1915 simplified Attila.

I believe the boards are Model M15 although the numbers and harp are pinned on instead of made of cloth and sewn on. They are however brass in color which is correct for the 20th as are the base colors. Maybe this was fine for an NCO in Calvery units known as Der Vizefeldwebel.

The swallow nest with fringes was worn by battalion drummers, staff Hoboisten and by Infantry Regiments who wore Litzen they also had the swallows nest with fringes. So, no fringes means that we can guess his position and instrument.

All the best John Josef
