Hey Guys, I think Joe was arrested last week and deported due to a mix up at our Immigration department, but I think the thing that bothered joe was the JR 78 and FAR 55 markings an the same helmet, It would be a little difficult to see this as an Artillery helmet.

The bid price on this is crazy!! Re the markings, this could have been an M95 Arty helme originally. I have seen many M95s converted to M15 fittings. Sometimes, the give away is the presence of brass grommets in the shell. On other helmets, you can see where the original brass grommets were removed and grey ones put in enlarged holes or even additional ones. While the haube was still being worn, they never threw anything out which could be refurbished and reissued. One comment on the liner for new collectors....the flaking of the liner is typical of what happens when the leather loses its natural oils and the skin fibres start to break down and seperate. This liner is a few years short of "red rot" where the fibres turn to red dust. Whoever purchases this helmet, should immediately put some leather treatment on the liner to stop further flaking. I made it back through immigration! What disturbs me about this helmet is exactly what Gus said: how do you relate those two units from different corps with this front plate? I actually got to use the new books by Kraus and I still could not find any relation. If the artillery Mark is dated 1915 then after that date that helmet had to go to a different corps and to an infantry Regiment boasting a rare Wappen. Based on what little I know about equipment recovery I do not see how this helmet changed corps in 1915. That is what I do not get.
