I need advice on some organization

If you go to the individual picture page such as postcard-scan092 you can see all of the tags. There is a link that allows you to add tags right there and once you get into it it will show you all of your existing tags and you can press one to add it. Much faster. Still labor-intensive. I have found going to the individual picture and using the keyboard shortcuts to page to the next one is much faster than using the batch organization. Always looking for new ideas!

That's what I did.

I think I'm gonna use it, too. But there's so much more to do before...

Joe, just getting back to this thread. Contact me thru e-mail or message me at Flickr, I can guide you thru, or at least help you figure out what you want to do!

I am coming to the end of the first disc. I have about 50 to go. As you know from the Trenton thread, I have a huge problem with 150 dpi. Therefore, for specific pictures I intend to replace them with 600 dpi. What is the best way to replace an existing photograph with a different photograph but yet keep the same tags?

I seriously appreciate the way George has intelligently added tags. thank you.

I should run a 600 TPI test sometime today. :dink: :dink:

Good Day Joe!

I suppose the best way would be to add the new photo, click on the "Share This" drop down, capture the HTML code by clicking on the "Grab the HTML/BBCode", I recommend using the code for the "Small" (240 X 146). now go to the original 150 dpi version, and paste the code into the "comments & faves" box and post. Now underneath the original version, you have a thumbnail type link to click on that brings you to the newer 600 dpi version.

If you then have portions of a given photo that you want to highlight as an enlargement, just repeat the above process. Now you have all the versions in one place.

Hope that helps!

"Replace this photo" option, under the Actions tab.

You keep tags, but may lose the link to a forum - if you've posted it somewhere.

What are your thoughts on the right reserved settings and the privacy settings? I seem to be getting a reasonable number of hits.

Tough one.

Invariably you will be contacted by all manner of individuals, if you haven't already, 99% of whom will be bonafide authors, publishers, bloggers etc and 1% will be nutters, all wanting to use your pictures for some project. This is where you have to decide whether you want to slug them for the privilege and risk them going elsewhere - or permit them to use your pictures conditionally / unconditionally.

It really is a case by case basis for me. For example, I have given the WFA carte blanche access to my collection gratis, but have requested a 'small donation' from others ie: Getty Images. Students can use what they like at no charge, but I request publishers give me a little kudos for supplying the image - once again, usually free of charge. Hey - I'm a nice guy.

I have chosen the most lax setting in terms of license for my pictures as I believe copyrighting is of little value in my case and the genuine parties interested in the images, authors, publishers and the like, have always had the decency to contact me first. I realise this is not always going to be the case, but this is still very much a hobby for me and I tend to be a little apathetic towards such things

One word of warning, every so often I get a "this is a photo of my grandfather" type message posted underneath a picture - the authors of which mostly turn out to be in that 1% category I have previously mentioned.

Cheers,

Brett
