An officer of I R 92 Braunschweig .He is wearing the Totenkopft on his helmet
front plate .His helmet has such a gloss that it shows a reflection .
Maybe Glenn can I D him by his neck order .
I can't read his signature
indeed I can. It is the regimental commander, Oberst Alexander Graf von Kanitz (1848-1940). He wears the commander‘s cross 2nd class of the Braunschweig order of Heinrich der Löwe (Henry the Lion). He went on to command the 49. Infanterie-Brigade and retired with the character of a Generalleutnant in 1905. wonderful portrait.
This from a period publication showing the then Generalleutnant z.D. Graf von Kanitz. Note the special "zur Dispostion" (i.e. retired but at disposal) Raupe worn on the left shoulder showing his z.D. status.
