Well, my first guess would be Infanterie-Regiment Freiherr von Sparr (3. Westfälisches) Nr.16.

That's what I thought too, after I had a look at the list in the Larcade Volume 1.

They're wearing dark trousers and have been issued obsolete 1871 Mausers. My guess is there's a letter above the 16, most likely an "L", "E" or even a Landwehr Cross.

I know nothing about their weapons, so you're probably right, I was just looking at the number.
