Outstanding education.
So this cap band is off of a Schirmmutze, barracks cover, instead of a Mutze. It most likely is from an officer and it is WW2 vintage.

Many thanks Kris for your research into this piece which has been a "mystery" part of my collection for many years! I bought it and the mutze at an auction in Toronto. I was after some officer pickelhauben but of course, they sold for money than I could afford so all I ended up with was the cloth hat with this band on it. it is very satisfying to have finally identified this object.

Just ran in on these, during a search for something different, but it might complete this posting.

In the 1930s, the supporters of the National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands (NSB) chose the orange-white-blue and the Prince's Flag as their symbol. Queen Wilhelmina in 1937 signed a Royal Decree that the colors red, white and blue are set as the official colors of the Dutch flag, partly as a signal directed at the NSB
