I'm looking for information about my ancestor Robert Winkler of the Garde-Kürassier-Regiment, Berlin.

Hi
I’ve already been able to find out quite a lot about him, including some years ago with the help of another forum.

Here is the information I already know:

Born on 28 January 1816, died on 22 June 1895.

  • In 1846 he was a Unteroffizier in the 2nd Squadron.
  • In 1856 he was a Wachtmeister.
  • In 1863 he was a Hauptmeister.
Always serving in the Garde-Kürassier Regiment in Berlin.
I was able to find an entry in the Königlich Preußische Ordens-Liste, 1877:
https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015049878856

Entry:
“1870 Iron Cross 2nd Class on the black (combat) ribbon (page 1076, very bottom):
WINKLER, Georg Ernst Gustav Robert, Wachtmeister im Garde-Kürassier-Regiment.”

Robert was likely his main or preferred name, as he signed several documents as Robert.
Additionally, another forum helped me very well with the decorations some years ago.

The photo must have been taken sometime between 1870 and 1895.

It would be interesting to learn why he received the various orders, as well as anything else that can still be discovered. Do you have any tips on this?
