Do the repairs on the front plate set off red flags for anybody else? Just wondering, not interested in the helmet myself...

I wonder what this sellers source is. He has been offering a lot of rare helmets lately. Its a Fuerst plate but without seeing the Rudolstadt badge from behind its difficult to judge.

:D That is the eternal question posed by buyers everywhere.

Every Sunday I'm always left wondering where the 'effin hell does Thomas Faust or Heiko Fuchs get the pictures they list on Ebay?

German sellers on Ebay. Their seller names are antikfuchs1 and urfaust. Every Sunday they list their new photographs for sale.

Antikfuchs1 in particular seems to have an inexhaustible supply of remarkable and absurdly expensive pictures somewhere.

No backbiting intended, but use the goofbay.com bid history to check ulan9's last 120-day buys. Thousands of dollars worth of helmet parts, plates and inexpensive french tropical helmts. I do think that some of his items are OK but I would be wary.

Actually, this helmet makes me wonder. Is there any good reference picture, close up of the badge? Does a forum member have this helmet in his collection? It would be interesting to see just how the plate (perhaps even back side) should look like. There are several modern makers who reproduce it and of course aging is no argument.

I might be kicking a dead dog, but I requested pictures and did receive quite helpfull close-ups. I do not intend to bid after seeing them, but would be curious about your comments. Such an examination is a good way to learn.

First, the plate.
The top and legs appear to be from a different plate than the body with the bandeau. The feathers do not match at the lower junction either. Difficulties in finding an officers version of a "Fuerst"-plate?

The star looks good, but has an extra triple hole in the center.

The badge. I have no comparison but would have expected to see more details around the eagles heads.

With the exception of the replaced liner(?) I thought this one looked good until you showed that cut-and-shut jobbie on the eagle. Looks like it has been attacked with a Black & Decker drill too.

Not for me.

New legs and Head by the look of it! Wow, talk about a cobbled together front plate. I've heard of crowns / heads being cut off by Spartacists, but never the legs.

Holy Jeebus! That is SO cool! Talk about ambitious. I have never seen anyone do that before. A photo for the keepers folder.

Are kit spike helmets the new trend for 2010? The seller below proudly states that "All of the original parts have been removed from the body of the helmet for reassembly by new owner"!!...

How cool is that? Then they can add a selection of decals so you can put the owners name in it too. I can just imagine the list of signitures that will be available.
Best wishes
Gus

I want a decal for the other part of the name.. "Macht"

I wonder what would make any semi-intelligent person do such a thing!??
