Thick visor trim, OR spine, Non-issue liner, OR spike base, tall officer type spike, reserve officer plate, Obvious change to dome studs, M15 officer type chinscales, 55mm cockades, colored under visors. What else?

I want the spike top.

Grommetted plate holes? I never saw that on a non-issued helmet before. This and the peak trim throw me a bit. Why do you say EM spine Joe? I can see it's not strictly Officer but could'nt this type of spine be for a Fahnenjunker or Fahnrich?

Why dont you wait for a taller spike?

Yes! --=but non vented..... more anomolies. I missed the grommets -- might be the photo but sure looks like grommets. The dome studs are obvious but was this assembled during or after the period? The spike top and base is new to me.

I want the spike top.

This is a Prussian reserve eagle. It is identical to the Prussian line eagle except for the lack of a bandeau. These wappen are supposed to have a landwehr cross or reserve cross. Even with the lack of a cross. You can tell, it is a reserve eagle based on the F. R. with no bandeau. Beamte often used an FR eagle without bandeau. There was no enlisted version of the FR eagle

This is a Prussian landwehr eagle. the motto is located on the landwehr cross. This cross is actually pressed in to the wappen. If you turn the wappen over, you'll see an impression of the cross in the chest of the eagle.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. As always your info is top notch. I would like that OR spine myself, I have an officer spine to replace it, still searching for one.

The chinscales look like standard enlisted half round M95 chinscales. Someone stuck officer style rosettes on top of the scales. You can see that the rosettes are separate pieces and are too big for the ends of the chinscales.

Ooooooohhh. Good catch R1! You are dead on as usual. That is a very bad sign for this item. I still want the spike top. 8-)

Sorry Mikey, what you see are not grommets but the grey tin washers and square brass nuts that should be there for a private purchase helme. It is the lighting in the pic that gives this impression Joe, I do not think that this spike will unscrew. This helmet reminds me very much of the Wurtt OYV that I have and posted pics of a couple of months back. Officer plate, interior and smooth OR style unvented spine. My helme has the M91 posts and matching flat chin scales. The spike is very fine but does not unscrew. Brian

I think your right Hawkeye!

Please tell me you guys did not spot those were M91 scales in about.05 seconds. :-s First clue should have been the three rivets. But the photo is there clear as day?

Yes T: Very obvious.....there are some excellent parts on this helme if nothing else. Lets face it the scales alone are worth $250 US. Brian

My thought exactly. Buy the helmet, keep that killer spike as an example of the nuts spike heights, use the mounted M91 scales on an Arty or Cav helmet, absolutely beautiful eagle for the chicken case, and ditch the shell to someone on ebay.
