Hey,

does anyone has anything the hessian IR 116 based in Giessen?
If not for sale, then I just would love to see a picture of it, cause my great great grandfather was member of it.

Greetings

There is a permanent thread in the Pickelhaube Discussion section.."The Hessen Family of Helmets". There is a picture of a helmet from the 116 Regiment in this thread. The 116th wore the normal brass lion helmet plate (Model 1895) or in grey steel Model 1915). All fittings on their helmet prior to WW1 were brass. The Regiment was created in 1813 and was part of the 18th Army Korps. Germany was divided into military districts or Korps. Each Korps would have infantry, cavalry and artillery Regts within it's boundaries. The pre 1910 shoulder strap for this Regt was a white strap with a red crown over a capital W. There is a Roman numeral I at the base part of the W between the 2 points. There is an 1870's 116 helmet for sale right now on the Age of Kings website for $1,995 US. This dealer is well known and respected amongst pickelhaube collectors.

The one on the right is a IR 116
