The latest addition to the Skeleton's closet did not generate much attention on eBay. Perhaps, prospective bidders were put off by its coming from the UK. Possibly, it went largely unnoticed because the seller listed it under "Picklehaube." Regardless of the reason, I'm extremely pleased: complete and all original for roughly $730.00 (including shipping).

It's not as stellar a bargain as Bruno's perfect 109, but qualifies as a close second.

Hi James:

If you twist my arm, I suppose I can do it. Until then, I can tell you the bird and bandau are a one piece stamping.

Cool  , it's a rare luck to find such an helmet for such a nice price! Congratulations!!!

Maxime

PS: Let me know if you find the sister of your tin erzatz tschapka or if you decide to sell it, I'm interested...

Thank you one and all for the kind words. The helmet is a genuine sleeper, and it's always a thrill to find something for a very agreeable price.

Eagle-eyed R1 brought something to my attention which resulted in a subtle correction. Below is a new photo. Andrew, can you identify the change?

That's obscene. :angry7: Easily that could go for almost triple that in a bidding war. Wow. Is that ever lucky?

Here is mine, marked nicely to the X AK and to IR78. Remember it Chas? More pics at >> http://www.kaisersbunker.com/dunkelblau/helmets/dbh10.htm

The only thing that I can see is that you might have taken the pic a little "off-centre" the first time, resulting in some glare, and then taken it head-on the seond time. Other than that I see zip zilch nada.

Andrew

Hi Andrew:

You're correct about the different perspective in the two pictures, but something has physically changed on the helmet itself. Keep looking, it will come to you.

Hi Tony:

I was following the eBay auction while in Indianapolis. I can't tell you how tempted I was to use the "buy it now" option at £450.00. Instead, I sweated it out til the very end and got it for the reserve, £375.00.

Of course, I remember your IR 78. In fact, I checked your photos over and over, comparing the Wappens prior to bidding. I also remember your IR 74 Waffenrock. What Kompanie is it?

Hi Mike:

Yes, I rotated the spike, but only for the following reason. I hope R1 will pardon my quoting him here:

I noticed from your photos that the helmet has been disassembled at some point in its life and when reassembled the spike base was not put back in the proper orientation. If you look at the mounting holes in the spike base only 1 of the 4 holes is in alignment with one of the 5 ventilation holes in the neck of the spike. The hole in the base that lines up with the ventilation hole should be at the front of the helmet. If the domed studs look like they will stand one more bending without breaking you might want to consider rotating the spike base.
When you examine this picture again, you will notice how odd it looked before:

Now, everyone, check your helmets, I have four similarly challenged.

Chas.

I was always puzzled about this aspect from the start. I was sure they must be stuck together with the holes lining up like that - always the one hole at the front aligned with the dome stud 'till I was 'straightened' out by some top notch british dealers " Aaaaw - they just whacked 'em together any which away stop being so paranoid and I've been in this game.........etc". You know the drill. Some even laughed at such a notion. So since then I have not worried about it. But I do think I've seen period shot's where the holes are random but never on Bavarian helmets - ever! Obviously M15 is'nt an issue, so........

By the way - nice helmet Chas! :)
