Hi fellow collectors!
Take a look at this one:

I don´t understand this pattern... :?
Fluted spike, cruciform spike base, convex chinscales, round visor and old rear spine... I would normally think cavalry helmet or hessian helmet... But prussian chicken wappen... I´m confused. A parts helmet? With an hessian frontplate and an hessian Landcockade it would be a great Haube... ](*,) Or maybe an hessian Offizier who changed to a prussian unit with only changing the frontplate and the hessian cockade? But no evident trace of double holes... :twisted:
Need to undestand that ! Help!!

Definately a Hessen helmet. That is a Hessen spike, no one else wore that style. It is obviously original to the helme. Pretty easy to resolder the screw posts on the back of the wappen to make it fit. Note that the plate is not taken off the helme and we do not see any foto of the reverse side of the wappen. JR103 is also a Saxon Battalion not Hessen. B
 
The inside view indicates a hex nut holding the spike top. Is the fluted part an addition or is this OK?

Totally ok Robert. My Hessen Reserve officer helme has the exact same. It just means the Regt wore the trichter. We find 2 different styles of spike top on the hessen helmets.....on one just the tip unscrews. One the other style the top and is round base screw down over the spike neck. B
