In short, yes it is original. Model 1891 in decent condition, the skull was squished a little at one point it seems. Nice NCO cockade, those have some bonus value. The finish actually looks really good otherwise.

It appears to be a private purchase for an NCO as opposed to an issued helmet from the supply department.

Normally you'd like to see if there are any extra holes on the wappen. Most 1891 models were converted to the 1895 model with had the vent on the rear spine. Can't tell about the chinstrap. Just not clear pictures, but it does have some traits less common.

The reserve crosses on the front plate is commonly added once a member goes into the reserves after active service.

If I really wanted a helmet of this year, I would consider buying it.
