Issued M1872 1. Großherzoglich Mecklenburgisches Füsilier-Regt. Kaiser Wilhelm Nr.90.
Very difficult to find an issued helmet with that unique spike and of course the Wappen. Excellent, heavy, solid old leather body, no lacquer damage with the countless little cracks of original lacquer. This helmet has been split in half, two chunks of pyramid shaped leather removed, then sewn back together. The extra holes inside, were probably the previous Preussen eagle which is interesting! This suggests that this was probably a Preussen M1842 at one time that was cut-down. A large number of them were flipped over to Mecklenburg by Preussen so Mecklenburg could re-work them as part of the treaty, so there are extra holes from a refurbishment. Both visors stitching is tight. Kokarde is period, but has lost most of its paint. The Wappen is very nice with all the crisp sharp detail intact. It’s attached with two thick pieces of hide. Novel, but that’s the way it came 35 years ago. The left side chinscale (as worn) must have been broken and at some point a later-period chinscale was put on to make it complete. The right side is original to the helmet. The main part of the leather liner remains intact, most "fingers" on six are gone. Front visor has been ‘punched” to keep it in place, right over the manufacture Wunderliche Berlin. Incredible markings on the rear visor, one side is FR90 1872 12C III.B, other side is stamped 1876 and 12.C. Inside also has the last owner's name tag and also FR90. It is a very rare helmet.
I’ve seen others at $3K-$4K which is too much. For this helmet, how does $2K USD sound? For payment PayPal is fine if you send “friend/family”. Postage overseas is outrageous but available. If you are not happy with it (why?) you can send it back for a refund. More questions? Email me.
