It ALWAYS angers me.

Parting out helmets to make more money, really pisses me off. You can tell by the parts being sold that this weasel had most of this Bavarian M15. I'd rather see the entire (or what's left of it) put up for auction.

I have seen and own several helmets that were in no condition to be restored, with the leather being completely ruined. Salvaging the parts from these helmets have been a true help in saving other pieces. I do agree that breaking up a good helmet is a sin.

The seller is a good guy and fellow forum member, he knows if a helmet is worthy of restore or not.

I break up helmets too. Usually there are simple Prussian M15's that really only have parts value. There is nothing wrong (to me) if someone parts out a Bavarian or Baden every-so-often...I believe 3 little weasels knows what he is doing....lol. Besides, I usually use his sales to estimate how much to sell my parts for. :D :D

Yes, I have met up with this member years ago at the SOS and he is a good guy. I have also bought parts from him and found him easy to deal with. I doubt he would ever part out a helmet that could be sold intact as he is a haube collector. I believe most of us have bought scrappers for parts just like the bikers or car guys do.

But in France we have bad guys.

This very nice helmet was sold on ebay.com

L'annonce de vente sur Ebay US :

And the buyer broke up the helmet to sell each part on ebay.fr...

Well sure it's sad.....but once you buy the helmet you may do WHATEVER you please.

Besides....most helmets are either destroyed or borderline repairable. You would have to be dense to buy a mint helmet and chop it up for parts.....

Okay, well, I guess I'm wrong and I'm glad they (he) knows what they're doing. That's not always the case. I agree that a mushed up helmet isn't worth restoring and parts are all it's good for. I would have only one suggestion. IF there are any markings, keep record of them with the parts. It would make it more interesting for the buyer.
