Italian helmet cover

Here is a question for Chip or Peter,
Does this helmet cover look like it could be real? The draw string looks a bit odd to me and the cover looks to be in rather good condition.
Thanks
Gus

If I had a brain, I would be dangerous, here is the link.

I have seen French covers before but not so nice of material ,the stenciling on the front is extremely clean almost modern factoey lazer print stuff. I have seen seeral painted unit Canadian and Brittish hekmets and they are all done in the field and no where that clear.
I am not a collector of Helmet cobers Gus .just thought i would add my thoughts ,as amatuerish as they may be .
On the other hand looks really pretty
Mark :)

Hi Mark and Otto,
I am inclined to think that this cover is just too good, as far as the stenciling goes, I do not think that it is too sharp, I have a M1915 French made helmet with the 3rd lancers insignia stenciled on it ans the lines are very sharp and clean.
Thanks

That might be a real Italian made cover, but it looks like it was made in 2006 not 1916 if that helps!

There is absolutely nothing resembling age. And I looked in Marzetti's book. I don't believe the Italians used stencils on covers. Pure fantasy item in my opinion.

Hi

As an Adrians' collector, I am going to say: be cautious, it is very easy to copy this kind of cover, which is from another point of view very rare...

In my opinion, this cover is NOT a 1916 one.

Thanks Eric and Peter, these are easy items to reproduce, and they are not often seen, so seeing on is such good condition is a red flag. It seems to me that Chip has one that is unit marked (but he was very cautious about letting me see much of his collection, I have no idea where he got so paranoid).
Best wishes
Gus
